Created the best telescopes 1609-1630s; telescopes magnified 10-30x. Moon craters --> celestial bodies are not perfect. Jupiter"s 4 moons --> not everything revolves around earth. A variety of telescopes each has its own use. Chromatic aberration - when white light is tinged with color and out of focus; caused by the different colors of light bending at different amounts through a lens. Breaks up light into its colors --> chromatic aberration. 1st solution: make lens as flat as possible and less prism like. Problem to 1st solution: telescope is big, expensive, and hard to navigate. 2nd solution: telescope with one lens and one mirror. Newtonian telescope design: secondary mirror placed in front of the focus to reflect light out to the side, bringing the focus point outside the telescop e tube. More light per dollar --> was a very popular telescope.
