Document Summary

No evidence of plate tectonics on venus: no ridges, trenches or plate-like features. Why: hypothesis, water weakens rock, lower melting temperature, decreases yield strength, no water, no plate tectonics. When you warm up most objects, they expand. Hot air rises at equator, flows to poles, descends. Coriolis effect - has to do with patterns that take place on a rotating object. An object uninfluenced by other forces will keep moving in the same direction. The moon does not move in a straight line, it is pulled down by earth"s gravity, but it is moving at a high enough velocity that it is falling over the earth"s horizon. The wind, moves freely across the earth, follows a curved path over the ground. If you could see win from space, it follows a straight line, but if you watch it from earth, it curves. Winds in the northern hemisphere curve to their right. Winds in the southern hemisphere curve to the left.
