Late pliocene-early pleistocene: hominids began evolving material-technological cultures. Ag and pop increase: 12-14k yrs ago. Industrial revolution: huge pop increase, forest clearance. Increased co2, sea level rise, mass extinction. Bones left by global proliferation of domestic chicken as a marker. Will heat up at rate of 20x faster than historical avg in last 100 yrs. Sea will rise by 1m by end of century, and 25m max. Sea levels were -120m during the last glacial max. Birds fell out of trees, lying on ground some were revived. Survivor males were larger, while females were average. Concluded that there was directional selection on males but stabilizing on females. Kettlewell: soot caused selection for dark moths (carbonara) Majerus did a 7 yr experiment that vindicated kettlewell. 3 billion bp (3 gbp) - largest is 250 gbp. C-value: measure of quantity of dna in the nucleus, to estimate number of gbp.
