Document Summary
History of art 188a discussion 3 (2/8) Kathleen berrin article: reconstructing crumbling walls: a curator"s history of the. Harald wagner bequeathed his collection of teotihuacan murals to the de young museum as long as they carried out his wishes displaying them in their entirety. Why did he acquire these murals: he liked to repair things and sell them, he was interested in mexico and ancient cultures, he had the money, time, and privilege. Odd: he collected them but he kept them in poor conditions and let them degrade. There needs to be better communication between home and host countries more consensus on who objects belong to, where they should go, what should happen with preservation efforts, etc. They were originally found in housing compounds in teotihuacan. Archaeologists discovered the exact geographic origins of the murals by matching the murals to broken bases (paint still remained and could be put together like a jigsaw puzzle)
