Ever more intimate relations with our devices: the personal al who becomes almost a friend (hildebrand, alone together (tukle) = taking the place of our family and friends. The self- as constituted in relationship: through our social networks, through hybridization with the machine (cyborgs) Self- monitoring, self-tracking, and the quantified self. This is science, and it is fiction: part of the existing life world, part of the fantasy world, part of the future. What can we learn from cyborgs in their different incarnations: promises of augmentation, anxiety loss of human, potential obsolescence, what futures we can and can"t see know thyself constructing the self through data. Self-tracking as a classical practice of observing one"s interior life: self-scrutiny, self-improvement. Touches on elements of one model of the virtuous self: self-aware, rigorous, objective, disciplined, self-optimizing.
