Polytypic = species with subspecies in it. Interbreed willingly with no problem = all same species. Can have statistical significance even with complete overlap. Polytypic - clearly there is variation with geographic variation. They could speciate if they stopped having hybrid zones. Or may all come back together again and speciate doesn"t happen. Homo sapiens are the result of evolution. Some of the biological differences between people result from forces of evolution. Only variation that is due to effects of genes can respond to selection. There is a lot of biological variation that isn"t genetic per se. If not evolutionarily deep, then it doesn"t make sense to make a big deal out of them. Social implications of species and subspecies designations. Use proteins as proxy for dna sequence (functional dna) The better they fit, the harder they are to break apart. Won"t do well if sequences don"t align much. Will take less heat to break apart.
