Document Summary

What is learned by children exposed to english morphology: results. Children at age 4 have three plural allomorphs ([-s], [-z], [ z]), however they don"t know how to apply [ z] to new words. Where adults use derivation to create new words, often children use: english morphology compounding, the english lexicon, language competence and performance, language acquisition. Language acquisition is more than a built up repertoire of memorized utterances, because children can apply phonological rules to made up words. Girls are no more advanced than boys in language acquisition. Practice with simple sentences is just as effective as practice with complex ones.
