Bats are mammals with brains more or less like ours with a cortex. There"s reason to believe that they"re experiencing something that"s like ours in some way, but we"d have no clue as to what that is because their worlds are constructed by sound waves. Brain damage mind damage (changes in sensory, perceptual, motor experience) Working hypothesis in neuroscience: mind is determined (somehow) by physiological processes in the brain and body. Discourse on method (1637): i think, therefor i am. He knew he had mental thoughts + experience, which was the only thing he was sure of. Treatise of man (1662): tried to understand the nature of life. Published after his death because he was worried about getting in trouble. Contains gures of eye musculatures and how they could be connected to the brain and related to perceptual experiences. Mind-body dualism: thought about the mind and the body and two separate things.
