MCELLBI C64 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: White Matter, Classical Conditioning, Edward Thorndike
Document Summary
Local level - would work even if you didn"t have a brain. Small structure located at base of brain, small brain. Has high density of cells - 50% of neurons in brain located here. Group of neurons in cerebellum that are active when you do something wrong (like try to pick something up and miss) Cerebellum will help you do that action/motion until you get it right. It is an ongoing correction - at every point of the action it is evaluating. Has a lot of cortex and few areas at bottom of white matter of nuclei. Light blue dots are cells and green is dendritic arbors. Dendrites are all equal and lined up pretty. Chronic alcoholics have damage to cerebellum - problem with balance even when not drunk. Alcohol acts on gaba receptors and increase the amount of chloride that goes into the cells.
