Constructions w/ commonly understoof traits n behaviors. Allows producers convey knowledge to the audience. Easy way for prodcers to ensure the communication btwn themselves n the audience is as clear as possible. A shorthand to help mediamakers create meaning n auds to understand it. Something in which the unfamiliar is made familiar. Fix n naturalize diffs btwn groups of ppl. Reduce, naturalizes, and fixes categories in terms of intersectionality. Reduce an entire group into a few siple characteristics. Even positive sterotypes reduce n simplify and dehumanize ppl n desempowring. Media helps define who is inside/outside our group. We r normal while the other is strange n different . Is a storytelling shorthand that reinforces stereotypes. Pro: sympathetic, makes the diff the heart of the story.
