Document Summary
Can compare amount in variation in chimpanzees to variation in humans. Humans are not very different compared to chimps! Mitochondrial genome tells us that all mitochondrial genomes originated in east africa. Lived in the same time in a lot of the same places! Dna is a lot more stable than rna! (but you want rna to be unstable since we want to be able to make proteins at the right time and right place!) But radiation, oxidising agents, aging, errors in replication, etc. can all damage dna. Looked at dna to determine if it was more horse or zebra (one of first uses of polymerase chain reaction enabled discovery that it was more horse) Svanta p bo figured out who the ancestor of the quagga was (by looking at creatures who died a little further back) Was able to figure out which mummies were related to which mummies. Dna gets broken down into little pieces (hard to clone)
