Intro to the lecture: people falling into a river but downstream people are getting fished out and getting saved but not everyone can get saved. Medical model vs public health model (people doing cpr vs people going upstream to find the source of the problem) Flint michigan switched their water supply from the detroit water supply to the flint river leading to lead in the water lead poison causes a ton of issues. No safe blood lead level in children has been identified. Violent crime increased due to the decline in lead in our natural environment. Flint had 4 different emergency managers - 1 reason for the chaos. State agency chose to ignore evidence of lead. Flint has been in state receivership for a while (since 2011) Priority is placed on the financial health of flint, not medical and physical health so much. Switch to flint river water in 2014, city stopped providing corrosion control treatment.
