Document Summary

Meditation iv and v: the theodicy of error, body, and the ontological proof. But descartes says he still needs to examine the issue of god being a non- deceiver. Why do we make mistakes if god is not a deceiver?) There are two faculties involved in any judgment: understanding and will: the understanding is limited simply because we are limited beings who are ignorant about many things. Errors in judgment only arise when we apply our wills to things we don"t understand. Therefore, if we refrain from doing this, we will not err. If we are seeking scientia (absolute truth/knowledge), we should withhold our judgment from everything about which we do not have cdp. The reason error is possible is because not everything is such that we have. We don"t have cdp of the truth about what goes on outside of us.
