POL SCI 3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Causal Inference
Document Summary
V2: what political party do you identify with? (d, t, i) V3: will you be voting for trump? (t, not t) Theory is a general claim about how the world works. A general representation about some part of the world. Theory: the likelihood of someone voting inconsistently with their party identification is more common among young people. Hypothesis is a particular idea to test with data. Hypothesis test: want to test that consistency is weaker among young people than older people. Take 400 people and divide into subsets: {over 22} and {under 22} Data analysis is the process of making these charts through data; statistics. N is the number of cases that you have. Rows in the chart: if n=400 then they have 400 cases. Large n is usually 25 or more: if you plan to build a spreadsheet and analyze the data through statistics.
