Diabetes testing requires a long series of tests that can mostly be managed by people who are regularly seeing a physician. Poor people who don"t have access to physicians never get tested. Come up with a test for diabetes: Ask them immediately when they get into the emergency room; consent. Prick the finger, do a little test, then follow-up. Has to advance/build theory to understand the world better. Theory: oversimplified understanding of a phenomenon, explaining something about the phenomenon, example: theory of war onset: Between 2 countries: inductive theory built from the ground-up from empirical observation, formal theory don"t emerge directly from observation. When you have a hypothesis, it is not only derived from theory. Hypothesis: very specific expectation that you can test to gain perspective on any given study or data.
