There are very different variants of communism, sometimes resembling china"s version more than the ussr"s . Cubans avoided systematic class struggle and execution of the bourgeoisie. Deported them instead of kill or imprison them. Castro loved sports and training of athletes. Relaxed scene (though definitely not for dissidents) Avoided prc alignment (cultural revolution was happening looked terrible) Avoided playing prc and ussr against each other. Us economic boycott of cuba greatly hurt the economy.
