The capacity to alter the state of others by providing or withholding resources (e. g. information, social ties, innovation) Socioeconomic status (or social class): family wealth, education, prestige of work. Dominance: using coercive tactics to control others. We cooperate + do good to maintain our reputation and, in turn, gain power. One can be powerful without needing to try to control, coerce, or dominate: when people resort to trying to control others, it"s a sign that their power is slipping. Positive outcomes associated with a sense of power include : lower depression + anxiety optimism, hope, greater happiness more laughter, joy; less anger in friendships, better health pro le healthier romantic life + better dynamic with teens.
