Sociology: the scientific study of social behavior and human groups. Societies establish and change: sociology offers a perspective or view of the world. Sociological imagination: an awareness of the relationship between an individual and the wider society, both today and in the past. Allows individuals to view their lives as they are shaped by historical/social forces. Individual: they wanted to have sex, they didn"t use protection, they wanted to be a mom, they wanted someone to love them. Society: their parents or other family members may have been teenage mothers as well. Society glorifies these relationships (ex: sixteen and pregnant) History: it has become more normative (aka more accepted), public assistance: sociology is a science. This is because it uses the scientific method. Positivism: applying the scientific method to social questions: sociology and common sense, sociological theory. Sociologists attempt to explain events, forces, materials, ideas, behaviors, etc. in a comprehensive manner.
