Document Summary

All genes have also been sequenced, and can track gene"s role in the. Nature"s role in the development of c. elegans (nematode): there are exactly 300 neurons in this animal. The lineage of the zygote cell development is now known, so development can be tracked from zygote to all development of a cell. Nurture"s role in eye development of drosophila (fruit fly): 8 cells in the eye are organized in a ring. Two mutations discovered: sevenless: mutation of the fly known as sevenless, which causes cell 7 to be missing from its eye. The sevenless gene was identified, and it was found it coded for a receptor protein. This particular cell has a unique membrane- bound receptor, and it the gene is mutated the receptor isn"t made so the cell cannot form: bride of the sevenless: found with the same phenotype (missing cell 7). This gene had to be expressed in cell 8.
