Challenging authority in harry potter and the sorcerer"s stone. Throughout the novel harry potter and the sorcerer"s stone, there are many instances where the defiance of adolescents is seen. Challenging authority is a rather difficult idea for young teens to grasp because it tests their discernment on what they think is the wrong or right thing to do. Hogwarts are instructed by madam hooch not to fly while she takes neville to the hospital, Harry disobeys this order only because he wanted to protect neville"s belonging from malfoy. His disobedience was not necessarily to provoke his authorities, but rather to be a part of the greater good in his mind. J. k. rowling uses these magical elements of flying and fantastical creatures to produce these scenarios that present harry and his friends with important decisions to make.
