HDEV 200 Lecture 11: 4.18 Notes
Document Summary
Popular in attachment research, different way of looking @ it compared to traditional ways. Looks @ self regulation and control, when we"re thinking about temperament we"re thinking about predictability and reactiveness. This is more about temperament, babies abilities to regulate own emotionality, and to regulate being weary (fearful of something) Looking @ interaction of how they regulate emotions and how nervous something makes them, not so concerned about how often and regularly they nap, bathroom, get hungry, not about that. Why: deprivation-not given the opportunity to attach, no stable, loving, and caring ppl in your life, neglect, abuse. Adverse environmental conditions, born w/ a result that doesn"t have to do w/ parenting, may be the case w/ some children who develop autism. Research is mixed, some studies suggest higher rates of insecure attachments, others don"t: quality of daycare is an issue, parent stress levels due to employment can be an issue.
