Children"s food choices are influenced by caregivers. Fast food is embraced by the young more readily. Tv watching + eating lower intakes of fruits/vegetables, higher intakes of pizza, snacks, soft drinks. Frequency of fast food consumption highest amongst 18-24 year olds, declining frequency with age. Reduction in familial influence with increasing age. The effect of age reduced factors on consumption of takeaway and fast food is largely understudied. Reasons for choosing and avoiding foods appears to be different between genders. Different values and goals in food selection process. Males: choose cost and taste or nutrition. Ses characteristic also affects determine females food choice multiple factors in equation. Women choice foods with lower caloric value when eating with male. Males choices not affected by gender or companion. Health relatively more important to females: connected with body image/physical shape. Understanding gender and food from a sociological point of view.
