In reconstruction, you want to choose the word that better encompasses the meaning. Ex: all parents should read to their children frequently, bill is a father, bill should read to his children frequently. All fathers are parents, but not all parents are fathers. the author here did not seem to have intended that only fathers should read to their children either. therefore: All parents should read to their children frequently.
