Parent and child seek a balance between initiative and respect for others. Industry vs inferiority (6-11 years): child learns to function socially in a less nurturing environment. Identity vs identity confusion (adolescence): plagued with questions such as, who am. I? , what am i doing with my life? . The person who fails in these ways feels an absence of meaningful accomplishment: ego integrity vs despair (late adulthood): integrity results from feeling that life was worth living as it happened.
