Difficult child: intense reaction to change, fussy, irritable, not laid-back. Slow-to-warm-up child: tend to be fussy, but not intense (middle ground) Stay at home moms and more ethnically diverse. Moms didn"t have a strong preference, easy life-style. Laid back parents + fussy baby = good. In effort to comfort crying, the babies were fed more. In u. s. difficult babies -> more subject to child abuse. Usually boyfriend sometimes father, but usually unrelated. Parents rated what bad things their child did. In 6th grade, first place: control and good fit. Even in the first year, boys are more active and daring, more irritable when frustrated, and slightly more impulsive. Girls are better at effortful control, better at school performance, and have lower incidences of behavior problems.
