America brought in large feudal ideas: farmed by various forms of indentured labor, helped shaped. European and native americans society: north americas had democratic revolution, mass ppl didn"t agree w/ mother country, latin america revolution was defeated, colonial elites were going against spanish crown. Colonialism and underdevelopment: settler colonies and colonies of rule, colonial division of labor. Shift to export monocultures grew crops that couldn"t grow in europe like sugar, cotton, tobacco, coffee etc. Forced to grow crops for export and dependent on imported foods from other places. Originally grew multiple crops some for selling some for subsistence. Forced to buy from produced goods, didn"t make their own clothes or even what they used to. Destroyed due to forced labor through multiple generations. Transforms labor and gender relations and ethnic composition. Used to work as households now men worked in plantations and women did domestic work or look after children.
