Human labour: conscious and purposeful: example: spiders build webs and bees make honey, that"s part of their instincts and dna, but humans have the capacity of thinking about things. Disassociation of labor process from skills: broken down into discreet steps, everything becomes a machine, ppl become machine doing monotonous tasks reduces costs, uses single purpose machines. Separation of conception from execution: don"t think about it, don"t need to move much from your station, purpose is to control labor and extract as much work from employee as possible. Use of knowledge to control each step of the production process. Problems w/ taylorism: cheap labor, cannot pay well, workers cannot buy products that workers are producing. Increase in competitive pressures: also had to raise price of finished product if you pay employers more, competitive prices, had foreign competition, as well as other businesses and products, couldn"t continually give workers better wages.
