Use triplets of nucleotides for coding for the 20 atcg combinations. Ribosomal rna is what the mrna hooks up with. Transfer rna molds and sticks with the mrna. Gene is entire sequence of dna bases responsible for the synthesis of single type of protein. Locus is location where homologous alleles are located. Heterozygous if different alleles at the same locus. Mutation happens when 1. the cell fucks up or 2. outside problems, which can affect phenotype (new things!) Most mutations are deleterious or neutral, but ultimate source of variation. Needs to occur in the gametes in order to be inherited.
