Afarensis did not fully extend its hips and knees (similar to apes) More terrestrial males, much larger than the females. 1950s: the graciles developed to hunt (the hunting model, feedback model); robust were just gentle grass eating giants. Females trade sex for food, hiding when in estrus so sex all the time= nuclear family. Said as time went on, hominoids decreased because couldn"t compete (breeding so slow) But: females bring in most of the food with gathering, need to force the monogamy. The dimorphism means that they weren"t monogamous and throws that all out the window. Eating: they have huge molars- probably mostly grass, except that their teeth are too short. Maybe low grade vegetables as a fall back food.
