Apotheosis of the spanish monarchy : in the antecamara de gasparini, lacks the illusionist qualities of tiepolo"s rococo fresco. Stylistically, goya"s cartoon is rooted in the rococo. At first glance, it recalls the decorative paintings of his french contemporary fragonard. Goya"s cartoon appears more broadly painted and less cluttered with detail. It is an unusual image for its time, in that it focuses attention on the dismal living conditions of. Painted in dark, muted colors, it seems hardly suitable for a decorative tapestry. Although he looks straight at the viewer he seems to gesture towards goya who has come to deliver his painting. His tasks, on this day, include approving his portrait as well as the discussion of some floor plans with tan architect. This painting is commission, and it"s success is credited with beginning goya"s ascent to become the leading painter of madrid.
