18 views4 pages

Document Summary

All 3 meninges cover the brain and the spinal cord. Pain receptors are in the dura but not in the brain. Dural venous sinuses in between the two layer of the dura- invaginations. Spaces in the brain where there is csf. Ventricles are continuous with each other and with the central canal of the spinal cord. 4 ventricles- 2 lateral ventricles (paired structure)- come towards the midline, third ventricle, 4th ventricle. The lateral ventricles empty into the interventricular foramen and then third to the cerebral aqueduct to the fourth ventricle. Fourth ventricle then empties into the central canal of the spinal cord. Buoyancy: csf supports the weight of the brain and prevents brain from being crushed under its own weight. Protection: liquid cushions to protect neurons from sudden movements. Environmental stability: provides nutrients, gets rid of wastes. A lot of flow is accomplished through sleep.
