CAS BI 211 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Vasospasm, Paracrine Signalling, Megakaryocyte
Document Summary
Whenever we have a hole in our system we need to create a cluster of things to stop it homeostasis. Thrombocytes cannot really do anything else other than clotting. They are mature cell fragments forms given to the blood. They pinch off their cytoplasm to create platelets. They are small cell fragments which pinch off from megakaryocytes from bone marrow. It is important that clotting cascade is perfectly targeted to where the is some sort of blood loss. The platelets become stickier and they contract in order to become more compact. Brogen, a plasma protein, aggregates and form a net that strengthens the clot. Flow is proportional to gradient and inversely proportional to resistance. Diffusion is proportional to concentration gradient and inversely proportional to the membrane resistance (the thicker the membrane, the more resistance). The rate of blood ow is proportional to pressure gradient and inversely proportional to vessel resistance (viscosity, diameter and length).
