CAS BI 315 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Extracellular Fluid, Blood Vessel, Osmotic Concentration
Document Summary
Casbi 315 - lecture 1 - organ systems. Organ system: more than one organ and the associated structures that come together functionally or anatomically, ex. urinary system, artificial term. Cell types: nerve, connective, muscle, and epithelial. Tissue types: nervous, connective (adipose), muscle, epithelial: a collection of cells that forms a structure, ex. a tendon. Organ: any collection of two or more tissue types. Intracellular fluid: the fluid within the cell, most solutes. Interstitium: all the space surrounding the cell that is not in a blood vessel interstitial fluid medium solutes. Blood vessel: contains the plasma, erythrocytes, and solutes, least solutes. Osmolarity: total amount of solutes in water regardless of type, 150 mm nacl in water = 300 mosm solution: regulates heart and neuron function, blood pressure and interstitial fluid osmolarity depend upon the closed circulatory system, when blood pressure is raised, the kidneys expel some salt to reduce blood pressure.
