Document Summary

Biome- a major regional community of plants and animals with similar life forms and environmental conditions. Habitat- is the geographical locations and environmental conditions where a species lives. Niche- includes the totality of species environmental requirements. Where does the organism live in the community. Characteristics that affect an individual"s chance of survival. Specialization- adaptations that are adapted and have a narrow set of environments that they can survive in, very narrow adaptations. Anatomy and physiology are often the result of natural selection and therefore adaptations form to specific conditions (leaf shape) Tropic plants don"t worry about water, because there is lots of water. In the desert plants have small leaves because they cannot afford water loss, they also have a thick waxy cuticle/ coding to reduce water loss. Moisture gradients- can occur in plants on mountains. Distribution is determined by temperature (length of growing season), moisture (precipitation versus evaporation), and sunlight.
