Relation between god and people: the idea of establishing justice and living ethical life. Abraham got the message to leave mesopotamia, he leaves with people along fertile crescent. However, he couldn"t find abundant food, moves south, and ends up in egypt, where they are enslaved. Moses goes back to the holy land. Torah (illustrates what is an ethical, authentic, meaningful jewish life, not mundane things) + temple. The jewish unity breaks up into israel and judah lots of conflicts and invasions. People were absorbed into assyrians if not killed or enslaved. Reinterpret the god who created this land and rewrite the early text of torah. There were only two kingdoms of judah and israel before persian empire. Raises the question of covenant, the chosen people. Being chosen is being a burden for carrying justice and living ethical life. How do we reform our life? social reform, becoming a model for other nations to follow.
