People had economic depression as terrible and severe as the great depression. Agriculture economy at risk due to overpopulation and famine. Black death wiping not only people but also farm herds, killing 1/3 of european population. In the chaos, the wealthiest people had disposable income indeed, they were capable of accelerating renaissance by supporting artists. Indeed, only the wealthiest 3 to 5% of the population remained unaffected by the chaos. These rich were mostly bankers who invested to people and imposed high interest. Armed aristocracy running the government was still there with privileges and legal protections. Commoners gained power against the riches by themselves. A common soldier being able to kill a knight with gunpowder and the access to literature for all changed the society. Commoners began to demand their voice and built parliament. All these crises made people to reflect back on their lives, morals, and new interests.
