Landlords demand higher rents from the peasants leasing land in order to spend more money. Landlords decide to evict farmers, enclose land, and raise sheep (textiles always in demand); only need a few shepherds, decrease in labor cost enclosure movement. Bc no government banks; did not follow free market policy/capitalism, instead followed mercantilism. Government happy that people are moving to new world as colonists because get rid of the religions they don"t like, also have control over the colonies and selling stuff to them. Half a million out of 8 million, in north, cotton and tobacco production. Slaves mortality > birth; pirate slave traders benefit. Pirate crews made up of escaped slaves; relatively few made it to an office class, mostly crewmen and cooks; whenever they attack other ships, blacks sent out first because they were the angriest (wanted revenge) and scariest.
