This is a negative doctrine it states that something (moral values, objective ethics) does not exist. It is not a positive claim about what morality is about. He wants to argue that people are in error: they believe that there are moral fact but there aren"t. He might be thought of as a desire theorist: he is an anti-objective list/theories person. It says that there do not exist entities or relations of a certain kind, objective values and requirements, which many people have believed to exist. He believes that there isn"t anything intrinsically good at all (ful lling your desires is not intrinsically good). Things mackie says do not exist: moral goodness, moral value. 3: duty and obligation, beauty/ artistic merit rightness and wrongness.
