Document Summary

The fusiform face area: a model in human extrastriate cortex specialized for face perception. The visual system decontrols what we see in the environment and then reconstructs it in the brain. The ventra pathway where the brain process the objects that we see. While we know processes such as edge detection" occur in primary visual cortex (v1), much of the rest remains a mystery. In the 1970"s it was discovered that some neurons in it (inferotemportal cortex) had been shown to re" more so in response to images of faces than to other images. We seem to process parts of a face when it"s shown in an intact whole face, instead of incompatible parts. Behavioral studies show that when participants observe objects and not faces, their behavior changes. The effect, in which the whole helps identify the part , didn"t reveal itself with other non-face objects.
