Ps 101 b2: general psychology lecture 2: neuroscience: biology and behavior 1. Goal today: overview of neuroscience, set the tone and expectations of what to be thinking about throughout this course, and peak interest in more biology based psychology. Nervous system is responsible for how we feel, think and what we do. Neurons are cells that make up nervous system. Whole network of cells (more than one) interacting that affect how we feel, what we do etc. Within each neuron, there is an electrical signal (what eeg is measuring) Between neurons, they communicate via chemical signals (neurotransmitters) Detect information from physical world and pass info to brain. Come from brain and control muscles in body. Within each type, there are lots of subtypes. Example: fingertip touches something hot and impulse goes through back of spinal cord (dorsal part) and motor neuron comes from ventral part of spinal cord and causes you to move hand away from heat.
