Document Summary
I: dendrite, white matter in brain = myelin sheath (fatty bit, gray matter=soma (around nucleus) Action potentials= messages being sent: space inside neuron = negative when resting, dendrite receiving excitatory messages that make a message occur. Potassium (k+: spreading action potential to terminals. F. action potential allows for surge to make synaptic transitions possible. Synapses & neurotransmitters: synaptic transition= how a message is sent & received, neurotransmitters= chemical compound messenger, volume will affect inhibitory/excitatory, ex: serotonin, dopamine synaptic vesicles= bubbles around neurotransmitters, storage unit. C: voltage gated calcium gates to the terminal buttons, fuse to vesicles as a helper and flow to synapse, synapse=gap between axon terminal & dendrite. F. certain receptors will only take 1 neurotransmitters: can either be excitatory= helps make an action potential occur. 2. inhibitory =less likely for an action potential to occur. Neurotransmitter re-uptake pump: many medications are re-uptake inhibitors, make more neurotransmitters available in the synapse for longer period of time.
