V1 acts as the gateway to the rest of the cortex. Dorsal: where and how for identifying the location of objects in space and how we interact with objects in the world. There has to be crosstalk with these two. Each of these is functionally distinct, each contains speci c neurons for speci c functions. It cells respond preferentially to objects, within it we have the fusiform face area. We are segmenting the world into behaviorally units. The dorsal pathway is made of the middle temporal cortex (mt) which respond to action motion. In particular, the direction and speed of motion. We can test this by using a human in a scanner (fmri) and have him look at a screen with a xation point, surrounded by stationary black dots and white moving arrows. We ask him: when you hear tone 1, switch attention to black dots, when you heat tone 2, switch attention to arrows.
