Gender differences in health are still a puzzle: women live longer with more disability, men die younger. Russian life expectancy: females have always had a higher life expectancy than the males, there is a dip in 1992 due to the break up of the ffr. Themes and contradictions: higher status increases health, inequality diminishes health, wealthy countries . Maybe the issue is what people die from rather than the context. Women and girls higher rates of depression and anxiety. Men and boys higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse o the argument so far. Greater variation in the gender gap puzzle and other disparities. Even with social welfare regimes, gender differences and other disparities remain. It is marriage benefits or do healthier people get married: data to support both, men> greater health benefits, what about children o results are mixed>varies by, financial o time constraints, employment, gender.
