Illness presents 3014 days of fever, headache drowsiness disorientation and mental confusion. Cfr: case fatality rate: % pf people with infectious that are dying from the infected population. Reservoir host definition: animal that is the source of the infection, infection lives inside the host but the animal might not get sick. Intermediate spillover host: close to reservoir host- gets infection and gets sick. Spillover: when an infection moves from one species to another. Bats carry every disease imaginable- they don"t get sick. Feeds on fruits such as mangoes, banana and figs-> leaves them half eaten and other animals could eat these. Roost in large colonies in tall trees and caves. Geographic spread of nipah: (graph for nipah and hendra) Circles show: fruits bats testing positive for nipah. Stars where there have been specific outbreak s. Either intermediate host hasn"t happened or humans haven"t interacted with that host. Bats moved in fruit orchards located in pig farms.
