The following is a description of the rental process at big mike"s machines, a rapidly growing franchise business that rents high end landscaping and lawn care equipment to homeowners. Mike"s are do-it-yourselfers who want to do their own landscaping, but don"t want to invest in the capital equipment necessary to make the job easier. Because big mike"s rents out expensive equipment, employees have been trained to do a number of different checks on customers when they enter the store and request equipment. The process begins when a customer enters the store and requests an equipment rental such as a front-end loader or backhoe. The store clerk first checks to see if the equipment is available and on premises. If the equipment is not immediately available, the clerk will inform the customer of the due date for its return. If the equipment is available for rent, the clerk will inform the customer of the daily rental rate.
