CAS MA 213 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Level Of Measurement, Statistical Inference, Descriptive Statistics
Document Summary
Qualitative (nominal data) data are measurements that cannot be counted on a numerical scale, but recorded in categories (major, hair color) Quantitative data recorded on a naturally occuring numerical scale. Ordinal data-- uses numerical values to assign an order to the possible values, but not on a relative scale; ex: how much do you like going to the beach on a scale of 1-10. Continuous data (interval)-- uses numerical values to express the value and relative scale of the data; ex: how many times did you go to the beach this summer. Descriptive statistics summarizes data using numerals and graphical methods to look for patterns; uses graphical and numerical methods to summarize data and look for patterns in the data set.
