Vivian case: Alzheimer’s:
Gets lost while driving. Drove the wrong way.
Hippocampus is responsible for memory formation.
Showing early signs of Alzheimer’s.
She remembers her old memories, but can’t encode new ones. Lose keys easily, forget where she parks
ACh depleted in Alzheimers in the hippocampus.
Neocortex, lose ability to and form process information and storage and remembering longterm memories.
Ach drops in the hippocampus, Ach drops in Neocortex, then norepi drops in Neocortex.
Do the drugs work for Alzheimer’s? Nope.
Joe’s case: Robberies:
Don’t mean to hurt people. Occasional drinking. Was married for 20 years, has 5 children. Got divorced,
going back to jail for robberies. Won’t be able to see his kids. No withdrawal signs so no alcohol dependent
signs. Has never been part of an alcohol treatment program. Not labeled as a prior alcoholic.
No obvious psychological problem. No need for drugs.
