Document Summary
Neuroanatomy (brain mechanisms of disorder and treatment. Pharmacokinetics (why not treat w/ dopamine; enzyme inhibitors) Video: terry thomas & madame moule symptoms: shaky hands (restless tremor), depressed, lack of dopamine in the basal ganglia substantia nigra (sn): receiving end for dopamine, not where dopamine is. Axons to striatum degenerate when sn disappears the biggest part of the basal ganglia is the striatum this is where the dopamine is *** ***akinesia: is the most impt symptom of parkinson"s" loss of movement. Basal ganglia: l-dopa converts to dopamine and restores voluntary movement. Add medications wouldn"t work for parkinson"s bc you still have dopamine receptors but no more axon/axon terminals; add meds work by releasing the neurotransmitters from the sending side you need meds to work on the receiving side. Sn is where cell body is lost, not where dopamine is lost you count the # of cells missing in the sn.
