One customer was told it wasn"t the car but rather her height or heaviness of her keychain that was causing the problem. 2 girls even died in the car without drugs or alcohol in their systems and tried to bring up a lawsuit but lawyers said they didn"t have a case. It gives gm a loophole to blame crashes and injuries on people instead of failures within the car. It put quantity and efficiency before quality and safety. Gm was a major customer of delphi, without gm delphi would take a hit. Because the company only counted head-on crashes where airbags did not deploy: even after gm recalled cars because of the ignition switch, many owners did not comply. A lot of people don"t know about it and some didn"t receive notice in mail.
