Division of labor impact on manufacturer of pins: one worker can barely make 20 pins, when rationalize process of making pin, 10 workers specializing could produce. Modern assembly line invented: emile durkheim, the division of labor (1893) Assess social consequences on relying on division of labor. Increased specialization: changed the nature of the bonds that holds society together. Changed nature of glue that binds us together: encouraged individualism at expense of society, mechanical solidarity. Social cohesion based on all those who make up society. Produces a set of norms, beliefs, and values that are shared commonly by one and all.
